With neutral language - the who, what, where, when.
“I heard a question to the designer, asking if she’s the new diversity hire.”

Use “I” language, no accusations or attacks.
“I felt shocked to hear this & I think others were offended.”

Provide them with suggestions to change behavior in the future.
“Next time, you could consider how a brown person might feel discredited by this comment.”

Reinforce them with your words
Put yourself in their shoes & consider why it might be important to them to change their future actions.
“I know how much you care about your co-workers.”
